Lifta
Proof of history still standing. 02/04/05 22:07 The destruction of Palestine in 1948 left little remnants of the history that existed throughout the land, a history to be erased by Israeli destruction, Al Naqba. Lifta, one of the largest towns in Palestine, is one of many examples to prove of this destruction, however, this village not merely in oral history, yet visually apparent on the outskirts of West Jerusalem today. As an abandoned village, Lifta hasn't been inhabited, except for the Israeli hippies who take refuge in these structures, since the disaster. The majority of people who lived there were moved to East Jerusalem, and many still reside there today. A memory frozen in time, it represents what the country was, and how far the occupation has taken it. Most of the destroyed villages throughout Palestine have been destroyed so badly making it difficult to feel the village life that existed, Lifta structures stand in fullness to give the essence of life in history. Present day this area of land, which Lifta sits on, is in dispute within the courts, the desire of another Israeli neighborhood would continue the erasing of Palestinian history.More Photography • More Stories • [Home] Send to a friend |
